RALPH & RUSSO HEELS Eden Collection - A Modern-day Fairytale?
“You put high heels on and you change”- Manolo Blahnik
If you’re a big fan of strutting around in a pair of spiked high heels, and an eye-catching, resplendent dress or a more androgynous, boss woman pantsuit, you definitely live by this quote. It is not simply about camouflaging being petite at five feet tall, but it comes with an added confidence, sensuality, and an air of elegant poise or an ‘élégance et équilibre’. Although, almost always, beauty comes with pain, and so is it with heels. But we, women, do not mind it one bit, do we? Lt us explore one of the most coveted brands in this segment for you, the RALPH AND RUSSO HEELS
THE HISTORY OF THE RALPH AND RUSSO HEELS
Having grown up on our sufficient share of fairy tales and fables, we all know of Cinderella’s plight, and how she ended up being a sight to behold at the grand ball. Her glass slipper, which for those times was considered as haute couture of sorts, led her to her Prince Charming. Imagine a modern 21st-century fairy tale being revived, with a contemporary twist, of course. Before you all go on a curiosity quest, let us introduce you to one such couple whose chance meeting in a street of London led them to come together in both, their personal and professional lives.
Yes, we are talking about the Australian bred, British-based power-packed couple and fashion label founders, Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo of Ralph & Russo. Their journey is as dreamlike as their collections are, and their creations bear proof of the fact. Having founded their fashion label in 2006, they steadfastly climbed the popularity bandwagon and became the first British-based fashion house to be accredited by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture– one of the most prestigious honours in the fashion world.
The couple complements each other in many ways than one, almost like a well-oiled machine. In an interview with Farouk Chekoufi of Buro 24*7 Middle East, Russo once quipped, “From the beginning, Tamara’s sheer drive and wildly creative nature were so apparent to me that when we discussed our future together, we realized that we shared not only the same vision of building a brand but that her creative talent combined with my background in the business established the perfect foundation for such a venture.” And this synergy has led them to become one of the biggest fashion labels to reckon with. After placing their foot firmly in the haute couture field, they extended to launching a line of shoes and a ready-to-wear collection, which was displayed at the fashion weeks in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
Their success story and claim to fame are an inspiration for all fashion-savvy individuals or entrepreneurs striving to make it big. They have played quite a role in changing the landscape of fashion accessibility in the fifteen odd years that they have been in business for, and shackled stereotypes of exclusivity. Having dressed film and actual royalty, their roster of clients include billionaire families from the Middle and South East Asia, Angelina Jolie, Blake Lively, Priyanka Chopra, and Sonam Kapoor amongst others. They created quite a raving uproar when Meghan Markle was seen donning one of their creations in her official engagement portrait with Prince Harry. Some of their patent, signature designs include embellished gowns, truncated or eclectic styles, and the use of feathers and ruffles (we love!). Their accessories too, are super chic, classy, and sophisticated. But the piece that takes the crown for us is their Eden Heel Collection which was premiered in 2016.
RALPH RUSSO HEELS – EDEN HEEL COLLECTION
When the collection was first showcased to the public eye, it almost seemed like an unveiling of bespoke designs reserved only for regality or bridal aplomb at the time of the launch, but that has not been the case. Tamara Ralph once quoted, “Luxury in the modern-day epitomizes quality, convenience and above all, inimitable experience.” Although they succeeded in achieving this vision, their designs have been featured quite diversely on several occasions.
What makes these pointed toes drool-worthy are the intricately crafted designs on the stiletto heel, whose height is approximately 12 cms/120 mm. Using a monochrome or a colour blocking strategy, their collection is completely out of the box, and a show stealer in itself. Named according to their colour and styles, the Eden Pumps have a sleek look and a signature identifier. Handcrafted in Italy, these Pumps are crafted with ornamental filigree leaves twisting around the heel. Initially, sculpted in wax, the hardware is formed by maneuvering a traditional jewellery making procedure in which the vine leaves are individually laid out and customized in size to make each pair look unique. The fabric used is a confluence of satin and leather lining.
Each shoe is replete with an R&R monogram and hidden padded insoles to provide comfort. Depending on the particular item, jewels are used to provide a royal look. If you’re looking at buying one of these pieces, then you must know that they are priced between £1300- £2000 (It costs to be classy, doesn’t it?).
SOME OF THE BEST RALPH RUSSO HEELS TO BUY
You can go for several combinations such as the ‘Vintage Pink Satin Eden Pumps’ with Rose Gold Leaves orchestrated on the shoe, ‘White Satin Eden Heels’ with Pearls and Gold Leaves encrusted on it, ‘Black Patent Leather Eden Platform Heels’ with Silver Vines filled with pink and blue floral motifs snaking up, and ‘Nude and Pink Patent Leather Heels’ with Rose Gold Leaves embellished on it. Some of the other options include a ‘Powdered Blue Eden Pumps’ with a sleeker and distinct creeping vine design or the baby pink shoe enameled with rose gold leaf motifs. However, one style that completely stood out was the silver pointed toes with a diamond line around it, and a marvellous charm, which looks like the Eiffel tower seen from a reverse perspective.
Ever since they forayed into the luxury footwear niche in 2015, they have given some noteworthy and stylistic designs; this particular collection had the most character, charm, and decadence. It kind of transported us back to the Victorian Era and the world of the upper class in those times. It’s an alchemy of bold, yet delicate, somewhat replicating the natural resources in a very clever way through their work. It is as an ode to the woman of today- slightly surreptitious and mystic, dynamic and progressive, but grounded with a strong and an inherent feminine aspect to herself.
Helmed as every woman’s best friend, a pair of elegant shoes is eternally here to stay. Whether you’re looking for sophisticated glamour in a pair of over the knee boots, or stealing the thunder in an evening look with a pair of artistically fabricated high heeled court shoes or just gallivanting as an icon in their luxury sliders or their uber fancy sneakers- Ralph & Russo heels have a little of everything for everyone.
MUST HAVE RALPH AND RUSSO HEELS – VELVET BOW MULES
Before we go, we cannot leave without mentioning their celebrated Velvet Bow Mules which are mainly available in Hot Pink and Black. Rendered in lustrous velvet, and topped with a Swarovski buckle, it is hailed for being sartorial, but a statement piece. Its playful design makes it a perfect choice for morning and evening affairs. You can totally rock those cropped or midi hemlines or below-the-knee dresses. The heel height is 10.5 cms and it is priced at £625.
Giving a more masquerade feel to it is the ‘Black Suede Strapped Sandals’ with a plume of silky feathers fanning out from the ankle strap, which gives us a deceptive ‘barely there’ feel to it. Priced at £1,195, it is a complete winner with a slender heel of 10.5 cms and a mixture of suede and supple leather. It personifies the avant-garde meeting the relatable factor.
To sign off, we hope you enjoyed traversing on this starry journey with us as we took you through some of the most jaw-dropping and state-of-the-art creations of all times. Who’s guilty of already dreaming of purchasing a pair from their collection? Well, we definitely are!
