BENEFIT COSMETICS : CHA CHA TINT vs BENETINT
“Beauty is power, and makeup is something that really enhances that; it’s a woman’s secret.” – Charlotte Tilbury
If you are obsessed with all things related to beauty, this post is definitely dedicated to all you wonder women. Hey, ‘skinvestment’ is the new norm, isn’t it? And if you’re an amateur in this regard, fret you not, we have some good news for you. Read on to know more.
One of the best inventions with regards to make-up definitely is the face and the lip tints. Like, God bless the soul of the person who came up with this idea! A super easy fix or a hack to keep with us at all times. If you’ve had a long day at work, and have another meeting or a commitment to attend to, how can you look rejuvenated and gleaming within minutes?
The answer is simple, just touch up your face and lips with these tints, and you will be ready to rule the world. As the name suggests, these tints successfully multitask as lipsticks and blushes, giving our cheeks a rather contoured and dewy look (we love!). Pioneers of these tints, The Benefits Cosmetics Company, launched their line of face tints, with two particularly loved products- The Benetint (yes, after almost 3 decades, it holds its monopoly), and its evolved outcome the Cha Cha Tint.
Several variations in this cosmetic line were made, and tints such as the Gogo Tint, Posie Tint, and Love Tint were also introduced. Now whilst, all of them look beautiful and have a strong message to give out to empower young women to cross various life milestones, we personally love the OG Benetint and Cha Cha Tint. Aiming to give women a “fresh, natural” look, this rose huedBenetintcomprises of a sheer red. This harmony of sheer and colour, will give you just the legendary, post Popsicle flush, with a radiating glow. It is for the fearless women who lay their eyes on the prize and strive to achieve it. In contrast, the Cha Cha Tint, which was launched almost a decade back, is luscious, an unconventional neon mango-hued shade. As bold as it looks, it is for the quintessential boss woman who has a blazing fire in her belly, and intense energy to commit to her passion and just go after what she wants.
As always, it’s time for a quick history lesson to understand the vision behind a product that is revered by all, old and young. Twin sisters Jean and Jane Ford founded Benefits Cosmetics LLC by chance in 1976 as a beauty boutique called the Face Place in San Francisco to suggest quick-fix products for cosmetic dilemmas. Their first product, “The Rosie Tint”, now called the Benetint was initially developed as a rose flushed nipple tint for exotic dancers. Can you believe it? And the hack for it was simple- boiling rose petals and carmine to produce the desired effect. Well, and the rest is history. Iconic actresses Winona Ryder and Nicole Kidman swear by the product and revealed in several interviews that it is a mainstay in their purses. Acquired by LVMH in 1999, it has over 2000 stores in 30 countries. We love these successful womenpreneur stories, always.
We have decoded these two tints for you to take your pick. Like always, it’s a given that you need to pay heed to your skin type and decide what suits you the best.
BENEFIT COSMETIC’S BENETINT
Adhering to the ‘just got bitten’ look; this shade was sensual and sultry; innocent yet provocative back then. Pretty much like go big or go home, isn’t it? In an interview, in-house makeup stylist, Lauretta mentioned, “Benetint, the original, looks beautiful on each and every skin tone and can be layered for more intense colour,” and we could not agree more. Packaged in a red and a pink box, this tint comes in a transparent bottle, bearing semblance to nail polish. This liquid tint makes the skin look extremely alluring and sexy. It has remained a classic because we believe there is still a product to come to beat it.
A bold smooch-proof, see-through lipstick can also double up as an eye shadow, making you a flirtatious mystic belle. It gives a non-pigmented poise to your face, and seamlessly blends in. The size of the battle is travel-friendly, and the tight lid prevents leakage. The brush applicator is soft and gentle on the skin, thereby preventing any patchiness. Light and runny in texture and consistency, it gets absorbed into your skin or lips quickly. Brush three strokes on the apples of your cheeks and use your fingertip to blend it in. When you apply it to your lips, you may have to apply it a few times to control the darkness.

The flipside, however, is that even a drink of water can fade the colour away. Ironically, it lasts longer on the skin, spreading easily; giving it a refreshed, elegant, dewy red look at any time of the day, and stays up to 11 hours. Crazy isn’t it? What we revere about this product is that not only does it give a rosy fragrance, which is calming, but can double up as a gradation for other lip shades too. All in all, you will look, ‘au naturale’.
BENEFIT COSMETIC’S CHA CHA TINT
Almost 30 years later, Benefit created history again! This mango tinted stain wondrously blushes lips and cheeks with a tropical coral hue. Imagine getting some sun-kissed pictures for the gram, or sitting by the beach, flaunting that tan in your Cha Cha tint. Isn’t the fantasy just cha-cha- ming? One person who comes to mind right now is Emma Stone- we totally think she could pull this shade off. What say?
Following its signature style, Cha Cha tint too is packaged in a nail-polish-styled bottle, with a brush applicator attached to the bottle. For all those who are a bit lenient in their usage, the con definitely is that it will be harder for you to keep track of when it perishes, and the applicator does not quite reach the bottom. For starters, contrary to popular expectations, it does not smell like mangoes. Even though the colour may seem outlandish and overwhelming initially, we promise it grows on you.
The thick, milky texture elucidates the natural glow it glistens, thereby, making it easier and comfortable to use. Since it is not runny, you do not need to hasten through the application. However, be sure to blend it quickly because it dries and stains instantly. Even though duo-fiber brushes work well, we prefer using our fingertips. Similar to the Benetint, apply three small strokes across your cheekbones, and you will simmer and illuminate in the gorgeous peachy orange flush. Gosh, it is totally making us daydream about the same! Warming up your complexion, it works well on its own or with a moisturizer or a base to mix other cosmetics with. We recommend a nice highlighter to add that shine, perhaps Maybelline. What we love is that you will look as fresh as a daisy till you take it off, preferably with an oil-based makeup remover.

For the lips, the colour really adds the pop-up factor and stands out. You need to be super careful and mindful because the application isn’t as smooth as the cheeks. It can also stain unevenly if over-applied and not blended immediately because of the milky base. If you have dry lips, we advise putting a layer of lip balm as a lubricant. It also adds that ‘extra’ bit and helps ‘seal’ the deal. Since it feels so lightweight, it efficiently stays on for longer, fighting water and food. It layers amazingly with Benetint and Posie tint, so why not experiment and get a little high-spirited. Mix and Match, lovelies.
To sign off, we totally recommend buying these products, both costing $18 (INR 1300). If you want to add a bit of colour to your beauty regime and strike a healthy balance between natural and vibrancy and zestful energy, these are the must-haves for you. As parting advice, do not forget to take care of your skin and incorporate the necessary toners and serums, which help keep your skin flawless, giving it a healthy glow.
