BOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES IN MALDIVES during Corona pandemic
While the first wave of the pandemic was all about making banana breads and participating in several social media challenges whilst we stayed locked down in our homes, the scenario this year is starkly different. The ground reality is far worse than what it was! With our so-called ‘political aficionados’ doing little to salvage the situation to the citizens putting on a united front to fight the second wave, our motherland seems like a ‘No-Man’s’ zone. Still, during such horrid times, we give you a low doen of all the Bollywood Celebrities in Maldives, vacationing of course.
Apologies for this grotesque claim, but as a platform, we need to reiterate these horrid times. Grappling a novel, more serious strain, our healthcare infrastructure is being shattered faster than we know it. With hospitals running full capacity, and a dearth of oxygen cylinders, even ‘INFLUENCE’ has failed to successfully secure recovery facilities, especially ICU beds for loved ones. And, trust us, the entire world is watching! While we were hailed victorious last year for our efforts to contain the virus in a country housing 1.3 billion people, this year may overturn that reputation.
The medical community is at a tipping point encumbered by extreme fatigue and mental breakdowns. Imagine having to see a patient’s condition deteriorate rapidly? Similarly, car parks and gardens are turning into crematorium grounds, where the bodies are being burnt simultaneously. While people succumb to the symptoms during transit or while waiting for treatment, hospitals have now started using every ounce of empty space as a facility, along with other quarantine centers being opened up. While these may be the more emphasized upon facts, let’s not forget other grass-root problems that continue to throng us.
Yes, the situation was looking upward late last year, when gradually, services and businesses started opening up, and we saw life returning to near-normalcy. At the start of this year, who all felt that the Covid-19 pandemic would soon be a thing of the past, while we continued to brave through it with certain basic precautions? Well, we surely did! And, to recoup from this travesty of sorts, a slew of people, including our worshipped celebrities were seen fleeing to exotic locales such as Goa and Maldives from the Diwali break onwards. Did this ‘festival of lights’ live up to its symbol of eradicating darkness from our lives?
In fact, touted as the new ‘Banana Bread’ of our times, Maldives has become a favourite hotspot amongst our talented performers to escape to this ‘Island Heaven’ filled with crystal clear waters, blue skies, white sandy beaches, lush greenery and luxurious retreats.
Why were all Bollywood celebrities in Maldives while Corona was taking a toll in the country?
Once the restrictions were relaxed globally, throngs of our favourite celebrities jetted off to the picturesque properties to enjoy a quick getaway and rejuvenate themselves. With travel guidelines in place, it seemed like a viable and understandable option back then in the last quarter of 2020. Travellers had to undergo an RT-PCR test 72 hours before taking off, and even before arriving back in their home country. With Maldives being the closest tourist giant for India, many people were tempted to enjoy the sunny side-up life out there.
Flaunting their enviable bodies and stunning swimwear and maxis, many stalwarts made us drool over their Insta feeds for days! Sun-kissed scintillating pictures, while they kissed the ocean, becoming water babies, who did not want to be transported to this beach haven? Some of the celebrities we saw flocking to this pristine beach haven were Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi, Dia Mirza and her husband Vaibhav Rekhi, with their daughter and step-daughter, respectively. The younger generation consisted of Tara Sutaria-Aadar Jain, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif whilst they displayed the joys of the elite and opulence. Well, and they work hard for it, so why not, right? With the Pannu sisters giving us major sister goals to Kiara Advani and Ananya Panday ringing in the New Year’s eve with their supposed boo’s (as the grapevine goes), Maldives surely did emerge as the go-to destination for some sun, sand and sea. Private villas with infinity pools overlooking the reflecting ocean; floating breakfasts; long walks on the beach, replete with a candle-lit dinner; and best meals curated by world-class chefs, who wouldn’t want a slice of this exuberant paradise?
Rumoured couple Tara Sutaria and Aadar Jain spotted holidaying in Maldives
While Rakuul Preet gave us a sneak-peek into her family holiday, several television artists such as Dheeraj Dhoopar and wife Vinny Arora, Aamna Shariff, Surbhi Jyoti and Karan Singh Grover with his bae, Bipasha Basu are just a few names that jumped onto this bandwagon. And, speaking of bikini-clad pictures, how can we forget about the queen of dancing and fitness, the gorgeous Shilpa Shetty Kundra? Trust us; the list of these powerhouse performers doesn’t end here! Lol, if we had to note down all, this blog post simply wouldn’t end, lassies!
Bollywood celebrities trolled for holidaying in Corona amidst the pandemic
However, as we strive to eradicate the ravage and havoc of the virus load of our country, many of these celebs are now being trolled incessantly. The love-struck comments and reactions on their oh-so jaw-dropping pictures on social media are now substituted with grave ridicule. True, haters are going to hate, but the question to be asked out here is that is this the time to take off and jet set, when your country is hounded by the pandemic? Rather, is it appropriate to put these pictures when the rest of the nation exudes a different sentiment? For God’s sake, lives are being lost! As people in positions of power, one can do so much more to create a difference! To seek inspiration, moreover, they do not need to go afar- Sonu Sood, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are emerging as the “real heroes” in these brutal times.
Speaking of this feisty icon, the Quantico star expressed sadly, “India is my home, it’s bleeding” to urge people to donate resources as the nation battles the health crisis. In an unkind paradox, while India consistently reported the highest numbers of cases worldwide in a single day, many megastars remained aloof. They continued to post pictures either as a throwback or their current escapades.
After recovering from the disease, the talented couple, Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt too flew down to the archipelago, despite the lockdown in place. Additionally, rumoured couple Disha Patani-Tiger Shroff, Madhuri Dixit Nene and her husband, Jahanvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan, too were seen nestled in the varied blues around this time. From industry insiders and the general public, these celebrities were trolled mercilessly. As fellow citizens, while we aim to spread positivity and abundance of brightness, we do understand the severity of the situation too.
We absolutely agree with the celebrated talent manager’s message, when she lashed out these stalwarts, calling them “insensitive idiots”. Her acidic post being lauded for its impeccable timing read, “FOR ALL OF YOU VACATIONING IN MALDIVES AND GOA AND EXOTIC LOCALES, REMEMBER, IT’S A HOLIDAY FOR YOU. IT’S A BLOODY PANDEMIC ALL OVER.” Calling them out on their privileged and entitled lives, she literally called them ‘brainless’ and ‘tone deaf’. Atta girl! We agree that this is no time to boost our social media ratings, but rather use that influence to do some good. Furthermore, she chided, “This is the time to step up and help or if you can’t do anything, then shut up and stay home! Or Stay quiet in your holiday home … Masked up. No photos. This is not Fashion Week or Kingfisher Calendar Time! “Agreeing, author and columnist, Shobha De reposted her message, while Kareena Kapoor Khan, Rajkumar Rao took to their feeds and gave out a scathing post to let others understand the gravity of this dire situation.
Also, on a humanitarian level, don’t you beauties think that they should be keeping their getaways private? Forget thinking about themselves, if god forbid they fall prey to the strain (in the rarest of occurrences, the vaccine too may not help), but isn’t it important to be sensitive to others’ needs, presently- thousands of us are mourning, and nor do we have the luxury to stay put.
Acclaimed actor, Nawazzudin Siddiqui too, slammed these celebrities saying, “These entertainment celebrities posting vacation pictures at a time when the world is reeling under the worst recession”. What further struck us was that he rightly acknowledged that financial disparity still encapsulates our country, and there a lot of people who have lost their jobs and is unable to make their ends meet. On point! And the shaming does not end there. It seems that their fans too are not happy with their indifference, with countless trolls surfacing online.
While most of them have started speaking up and posting resources, more needs to be done. If spiritual guru and influencer, Jay Shetty and his wife, could raise funds, alongside international artistes to help India in these difficult times, don’t you think our beloved celebrities can do much more? Indian travellers are being suspended currently to contain the spread, globally, and as of 27th April 2021, our favourite hot-spot Maldives too, have imposed strict restrictions, which we agree is the need of the hour.
To sign off, while we may not have the right to question someone’s decision, we request you to adhere to the public feelings and be low-key. Our country is crying for help, and even a small amount can make a difference in someone’s life. We, as netizens do not want to see your scintillating and picture-perfect captures at the moment. As is said, there’s a time and place for everything. Let’s empathize and help our frontline workers, who are working tirelessly while experiencing severe burnout. It’s unfair to add to their stress, what say?
In another stead, if you are fortunate enough to not contract this disease, please do not be a carrier to affect someone else. Our bio-bubbles are there for a reason, and the sooner we understand this, the faster, “this too shall pass”. Remember the proverb we learnt in school, “United we stand, divided we fall.” Time to implement this, isn’t it? Being one in spirit, let’s save our motherland and fellow countrymen and women from more massacres. Sending all you amazing hearts lots of love, positivity and healing to stay strong and healthy.
