Who on earth is not aware of the iconic stature and the blinding personality of Ms. Priyanka Chopra, Miss World 2000, an Indian actress, a global icon, a producer, and a ‘Woman of Substance’ above anything else? The woman is an enigma. Though her professional achievements and her journey have often been the highlights of many offline and online tabloids, the trials and tribulations behind all that struggle have still been majorly unknown to the world. We are highly intrigued to know what aspects of her life are uncovered in the UNFINISHED Book by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and we are sure, so are you. But till then, we take you through some of the snippets from her personality, her journey, and a little insight into the composition of this ‘Woman with undying determination, grit, compassion, and brains’.
From the Beauty Queen Title of ‘Miss World’ to a ‘Global Icon’ Status
Born in Jamshedpur, Bihar on 18th July 1982 to Ashok and Madhu Chopra (both physicians in the Indian Army), no one had ever fathomed that the lean, dusky girl would go on to win the Miss India title at the young age of 18. But the dreams of the beautiful lady were far more widespread than that. In the same year, she went on to capture the Global title of ‘Miss World 2000’ to her name. There has never been any looking back and we don’t wonder why. Her robust personality, coupled with her charm and her earnestness to reach heights are all testimonials of the fact that this woman ‘wins at everything she does.
At her questionnaire round for the Miss World title, Priyanka was asked “Who do you think is the most successful woman living today and why?” Her reply was “There are a lot of women I admire, but one of the most admirable people is Mother Teresa, who has been so compassionate, considerate, and kind.” Well, we do agree with what she said (can we even beg to differ; the answer got her the Miss World Crown). But if someone asks who is the most successful, inspiring woman on this date, who inspires millions of girls the world over, our answer, would, without an ounce of doubt, be ‘Priyanka Chopra Jonas’.
Funnily enough, when the woman was on her way to conquer the world and had rather just taken her first few steps, even her mother Dr. Madhu Chopra could not foresee what her daughter was onto achieving. Instead of congratulating her on her win post Miss World ceremony, her mother in complete oblivion, asked her “babe, what is going to happen with your studies now?” Priyanka recently shared this anecdote through a video on one of the online platforms, captioning it as, “Miss World, 2000!”
It is such small interesting stories from the life of this 40-year-old fashionista that we can’t wait to read more of in the ‘UNFINISHED’ by Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
Her Memoir – ‘Unfinished’ Book by Priyanka Chopra
Not just the normal, regular girls, Priyanka Chopra has established her ascendancy to such degrees that she is an inspiration for even the most accomplished, and revered names across the industry. She is immensely respected for her unprecedented repertoire of work, as well as for her ‘larger than life’ persona. Meanwhile, people have always wanted to know more about all the action that goes on in her life, than what meets the eye. Of course, we all know how hard-working, perseverant, and ambitious Priyanka is.
Her memoir ‘UNFINISHED by Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ also talks about the actress’ struggles with her career during the year 2016. It was a low phase for her both personally and professionally. Her movies in Hindi cinema were not doing wonders for her. And due to the internal relationship statuses in the industry, she was kind of being sidelined and cornered by some major powerhouse brand names of Bollywood at that time. Her father, ‘Dr. Ashok Chopra’, her biggest cheerleader, role model, and support system, breathed his last in the year 2013. This left a huge void in her life. Often in interviews, Priyanka has mentioned, that she had gone back to the film set immediately after her father’s demise. Had she sat on the news, and pondered much, she would have just swirled into an unending phase of depression and loneliness. Consciously, she allowed work to take over her so that she could sail through this time of acute sorrow.
She mentions that she was coping with a lot of personal grief in the spring of 2016, when she moved to New York for the filming of the TV series, Quantico. She was mourning the end of a romantic relationship, as well as her father’s death. “When I wasn’t feeling numb, I felt lonely, sad, and isolated. I had put on 9 kgs and would often find it hard to sleep at night.”
She goes on to say that no one really knew what was going on inside of her because she never really opened up about her struggles to anyone. She did not even confide in her mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra.
Priyanka also confesses that though she was maintaining a confident exterior, her nervousness would rattle at the thought of entering into unknown territories in a foreign land. Though she was a reigning queen of the Hindi Film industry at that time; leaving all that behind and starting from scratch in a land she knew nothing of, was quite bone-crunching.
What Makes Priyanka Chopra the Achiever That She Is?
The lady of a strong core that she is, Priyanka says that ‘confidence’ was her only armor in her ambition to achieve what she had aimed for. She always emphasizes in her interviews that Confidence is one thing that can take a person places. And no matter, how nervous, scared, or trembled she is, she always makes it a point to enact being confident. Rather, over the years, she has subtly trained her mind and spirit to feel and behave confidently. In the words of Priyanka Chopra, ‘Confidence is not inherent or innate; it is a skill that can be learned over time and with conscious training and practice.’ No doubt, there is a reason the woman is where she is and the young girls out there have a lot to learn from this beauty with brains, determination and guts’.
In her memoir, ‘Unfinished’ Priyanka also talks about the racist treatment that she received while growing up in the US. It did leave a scar on her, though for a transient time, and she went through an identity crisis of sorts. But the woman was quick to realize her worth and found her own ground very soon.
After a romantic liaison for a brief period, the Chopra lady tied the knot with the love of her life Nick Jonas, in a grand, globally publicized wedding event at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur in 2018. They are both leading a blissful married life between India and the US and their joint pets are often seen featured in the couple’s Instagram reels and stories.
It would be sort of an understatement to say that Priyanka Chopra is an achiever. Irrespective of her being a woman, she has surpassed all levels of accomplishment and established the excellence of her work. In all truth, the woman has surpassed any parameters or benchmarks. She is an Indian who has created a niche for herself on the world map, and we as Indians, can’t take any less pride in that fact.
Here to more strength and power to this stunning role model.
